Cardiac autonomic neuropathy may play a role in pathogenesis of atherosclerosis in type 1 diabetes mellitus

Mala S, et al. - This study was performed with the goal to assess the relationship between carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) and cardiac autonomic neuropathy (CAN) in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) patients. Researchers observed that CAN had marked association with higher CIMT in T1DM patients. In type 1 diabetes mellitus, CAN could play a role in pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.
