Carbohydrate restriction for glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Diabetic Medicine Jan 09, 2019
McArdle PD, et al. - Using data collected via a search of the Medline, EMBASE and CINAHL databases (between 1976 and April 2018), researchers studied the impact of carbohydrate restriction on glycemic control among people with type 2 diabetes. Of the 1,402 randomized controlled trials identified, 25 met the inclusion criteria, incorporating 2,132 participants for the main outcome. Overall, no overall pooled effect on HbA1c was found in support of restricting carbohydrate. However, restricting carbohydrates to 50–130 grams daily had beneficial effects on HbA1c in trials of up to 6 months.
