Canaloplasty and trabeculotomy combined with phacoemulsification in open-angle glaucoma: Interim results from the GEMINI study
Clinical Ophthalmology Feb 14, 2021
Gallardo MJ, Sarkisian SR, Vold SD, et al. - In this prospective, multicenter, single-arm, clinical trial, researchers reported interim 6-month safety and efficacy outcomes of 360° canaloplasty and 180° trabeculotomy using the OMNI Surgical System concomitantly with phacoemulsification in patients with open-angle glaucoma (OAG). In total, 137 patients were recruited and treated. Data reported that mean diurnal IOP after washout was 23.8 ± 3.1 mmHg at baseline. Canaloplasty followed by trabeculotomy and conducted concomitantly with phacoemulsification provides favorable intra and perioperative safety, significantly reducing IOP and anti-glaucoma drugs in mild-moderate OAG eyes by 6 months. No adverse events have occurred due to loss of the best-corrected visual acuity or recurring hyphema.
