Can overnight stenting be safely eliminated following a pharyngeal flap? A matched comparison study

Wineland AM, et al. - Researchers strived to investigate if overnight stenting was required following the pharyngeal flap for the management of velopharyngeal insufficiency (VPI) in pediatric patients. No benefit was gained with overnight stenting. The findings reported an earlier discharge from the hospital, in the postoperative day (POD) 0 group. Patients did not experience the necessity of reintubation, escalation of clinical care, postoperative hemorrhage, or death.
