Body weight variability and the risk of psoriasis: A nationwide population-based cohort study
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Dec 04, 2019
Kim M, et al. - Researchers intended to determine if there is an association between weight variability and the risk of psoriasis. For this investigation, 8,016,907 people who were free of psoriasis and who underwent at least three health examinations between 2010 and 2015 were followed until the end of 2017 using a representative cohort enrolled in the national health examination program conducted by the Korean National Health Insurance Service. To evaluate the risk of psoriasis according to the quartile groups of bodyweight variability, Cox proportional hazard regression models were used. A total of 187,128 candidates developed psoriasis during a median follow-up of 3.4 years. A significant association was found between high body weight variability and an increased risk of psoriasis. Such findings suggest that patients should be advised by physicians to maintain proper body weight in order to help prevent psoriasis.
