Blood volume analysis as a guide for dry weight determination in chronic hemodialysis patients: A crossover study
BMC Nephrology Feb 17, 2019
Malha L, et al. - In this pilot study, researchers performed the first longitudinal measurement of blood volume analysis (BVA) in hemodialysis (HD) patients to test their hypothesis that BVA could be used in HD to evaluate the adequacy of the current clinically prescribed “estimated dry weight” (EDW) and to titrate EDW in order to improve overall volume status. In addition, they determined the reproducibility of BVA results in end-stage kidney disease. Findings suggest no proportional change in intravascular blood volume (BV) with changing weight. For 1–3 months, BV remained stable. For clinically stable HD patients, BVA seems to have no value.
