Biomechanical stiffening: Slow low-irradiance corneal crosslinking versus the standard Dresden protocol

Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Aug 24, 2017

Kling S, et al. – This study is written with the objective to evaluate whether full biomechanical stiffening can be achieved with corneal crosslinking (CXL) when applying a decreased ultraviolet (UV) fluence amid the standard irradiation time. The UV fluence for CXL might be decreased while maintaining the biomechanical effectiveness by utilizing a lower UV irradiance and the same irradiation duration. This might open avenues for the treatment of extremely thin corneas.
