Biomechanical effects of bonding pericervical dentin in maxillary premolars

Journal of Endodontics Mar 02, 2018

Huynh N, et al. - Authors sought to estimate the effects of bonding pericervical dentin (PCD) with composite resin (CR) on radicular microstrain distribution and load at failure of root-filled maxillary premolars. In maxillary premolar roots, CR bonding of PCD could impact the biomechanical responses at low-level continuous loads. Bonding PCD resulted in a shift in the apical microstrain distribution towards the cervical dentin with increasing physiologic loads. This finding thereby suggested that PCD bonding caused stiffening of cervical root dentin, which led to the redistribution of functional loads away from the apical region.
