Biological significance of TERT promoter mutation in papillary urothelial neoplasm of low malignant potential
Histopathology Apr 09, 2018
Wang CC, et al. - Authors gauged the mutation status of the TERT promoter, FGFR3 and HRAS in low-grade papillary urothelial neoplasms as well as their prognostic importance. They analyzed 21 inverted papillomas, 30 papillary urothelial neoplasms of low malignant potential (PUNLMPs) and 34 low-grade non-invasive papillary urothelial carcinomas (NIPUCs). TERT promoter mutation exhibited a connection with a higher recurrence rate in PUNLMP but not in low-grade NIPUC, in terms of the clinical outcome. A similar recurrence rate was reported between PUNLMP cases with TERT promoter mutations and low-grade NIPUC cases. Therefore, TERT promoter mutation could be used as a biomarker of prognostic stratification in patients with PUNLMP.
