Bioelectric silver–zinc dressing equally effective to chlorhexidine in reducing skin bacterial load in healthy volunteers
Arthroscopy Sep 10, 2018
Cooke CL, et al. - Researchers assessed and compared the efficacy of the silver-zinc bioelectric dressing vs skin preparation with 2% chlorhexidine or 4% chlorhexidine in reducing the bacterial count on the knee. The range of the age of the participants included in the study was 23 to 54 years old and 60% of participants were male. Findings suggested an equal efficacy of the application of the silver-zinc bioelectric dressing at reducing skin bacterial load as skin preparation with 2% chlorhexidine or 4% chlorhexidine in healthy volunteers. Between the 3 methods, positive skin culture rate did not differ.
