Bilateral salpingectomy with delayed oophorectomy for ovarian cancer risk reduction: A pilot study in women with BRCA1/2 mutations
Gynecologic Oncology May 24, 2018
Nebgen DR, et al. - A pilot study of bilateral salpingectomy with delayed oophorectomy (BS/DO) was performed in BRCA mutation carriers to determine the safety and acceptability of the procedure. Researchers undertook this prospective, multicenter, non-randomized pilot study of pre-menopausal BRCA1/2 mutation carriers aged 30 to 47 years who chose screening, Risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO), or BS/DO. Observations revealed no intraoperative complications in BRCA mutation carriers who underwent bilateral salpingectomy. In addition, these women were satisfied with their procedure choice and had decreased cancer worry and anxiety after the procedure. The trends toward preservation of sexual function with BS were identified. For some women with BRCA mutations, BS before DO seemed an acceptable option.
