Better-quality diet is associated with lower odds of severe periodontitis in US Hispanics/Latinos

Salazar CR, et al. - Experts gauged the cross-sectional relationship between diet quality and severe periodontitis in a sample of diverse Hispanics from the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos. Results demonstrated an association of better-quality diet with a lower prevalence of severe periodontitis. Among Alternative Healthy Eating Index (AHEI)-2010 components, an association of higher consumption of whole grains and fruits, and lower consumption of red/processed meats with lower odds of severe periodontitis was noted.
