Benign gynecologic conditions are associated with ovarian cancer risk in African-American women: A case–control study
Cancer Causes and Control Oct 04, 2018
Park HK, et al. - Researchers analyzed data from a large population-based, multi-center case-control study of epithelial ovarian cancer in African-American women (the African American Cancer Epidemiology Study) to assess the link between self-reported history of benign gynecologic conditions (ie, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, fibroid, and ovarian cyst) and epithelial ovarian cancer risk in this population. The study included 600 cases and 752 controls enrolled between December 1, 2010 and December 31, 2015. According to findings, an increased risk of ovarian cancer was evident in relation to a self-reported history of endometriosis among African-American women. Furthermore, data showed that, the risk of ovarian cancer was increased due to the presence of multiple benign gynecologic conditions.
