Bare retinal nerve fiber layer and internal limiting membrane tear associated with epiretinal membrane: OCT findings and visual outcomes
Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology Apr 17, 2020
Yeo JH, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective study to characterize spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) characteristics and evaluate surgical outcomes for bare retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and internal limiting membrane (ILM) tear correlated with the epiretinal membrane (ERM). Participants in the study were 158 consecutive patients with idiopathic ERM with (group A) or without (group B) bare RNFL (19 and 139 patients, respectively) who had vitrectomy between March 2016 and May 2019. According to findings, typical appearances of bare RNFL and ILM tear linked to ERM have been identified. A thorough assessment of preoperative OCT is important for vitreoretinal surgeons to recognize bare RNFL and ILM tears in order to minimize surgical trauma.
