Balance impairment and effectiveness of exercise intervention in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease– A systematic review
Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Mar 04, 2020
Chuatrakoon B, et al. - In this systematic review, investigators examined the evidence for balance impairment and effectiveness of interventions on balance in people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Researchers carried out four electronic databases [Scopus, CINAHL, PubMed, and Cochrane Library databases] from inception until June 30, 2019. They applied a narrative review with descriptive synthesis. Fifteen cross-sectional studies and four RCTs were included in this research. Impaired balance is evident in people with COPD. In COPD individuals, available RCTs imply that exercise interventions may enhance balance performance. Nevertheless, more research is needed to determine the impact of exercise interventions on balance in COPD individuals.
