Associations of subjective and objective clinical outcomes of visual functions with quality of life in Chinese glaucoma patients: A cross-sectional study
BMC Ophthalmology Aug 05, 2019
Yang L, et al. - In patients with glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible loss of vision worldwide, in China, researchers conducted this cross-sectional study to explore the connections between both subjective and objective clinical outcomes of visual functions and quality of Life (QoL). The study sample consisted of 107 patients with a broad range of glaucomatous visual function loss. Using pattern visual evoked potentials (PVEP), evaluation of objective visual function was performed. Findings suggested that self-reported QoL measures could be additional instruments in glaucoma patients to assess both subjective and objective visual functional impairments. There are distinct profiles of correlations in glaucoma patients between various clinical parameters with QoL. The better eye has more impact on the QoL in patients with glaucoma for visual acuity and contrast sensitivity. The worse eye has a more influential effect on patients’ QoL for visual field and PVEP. For the forecast of QoL, PVEP can provide unique and objective data.
