Associations between diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: A study-level pooled analysis of 26 million people
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism Jul 28, 2021
Li C, Xiao Y, Hu J, et al. - Researchers compared diabetes mellitus (DM) prevalence in persons with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) vs non-IPF controls, as well as the prevalence of IPF among people with DM vs non-DM controls. They explored PubMed, EMBASE and the Cochrane Library. Eligibility criteria were satisfied by 18 studies with 26,410,623 individuals, of which 16 recruited individuals with IPF and 2 recruited persons with DM. Findings of this meta-analysis demonstrated presence of 1.54 times increased odds of diabetes in patients with IPF vs non-IPF controls, while it still remained controversial if patients with DM have an elevated risk of IPF.
