Association of ultraviolet radiation exposure with dermatomyositis in a National Myositis Patient Registry
Arthritis Care & Research Sep 11, 2019
Parks CG, Wilkerson J, Rose KM, et al. - Questionnaire data from 1,350 adults in a US National Myositis Registry were investigated, analyzing the possibility of dermatomyositis (DM) in comparison with polymyositis (PM) and inclusion body myositis (IBM) diagnosis, relative to self-reported sunburn history and job- and hobby-related sun exposures in the year former to diagnosis. DM was related to sunburn in the year prior to diagnosis and with having increased job- or hobby-related sun exposure. Ambient UV intensity was correlated with DM in females, although not overall. Thus, high or moderate personal exposure to intense sunlight was correlated with developing DM in contrast with other types of myositis. Moreover, prospective research on UV exposure as a modifiable risk factor for DM is guaranteed.
