Association of the indoor environment with dry eye metrics
JAMA Ophthalmology Aug 17, 2020
Huang A, Janecki J, Galor A, et al. - Researchers conducted this prospective cross-sectional study to determine connections between the indoor environment and dry eye. They involved 97 veterans [mean (SD) age of 58.2 (11.9) years] with a wide range of dry eye metrics from the Miami Veterans Affairs Healthcare eye clinic from October 19, 2017, to August 30, 2018. Findings suggested an association of increased particulate matter exposure with worse dry eye metrics when adjusting for humidity. Humidity has been positively correlated with dry eye metrics, potentially because higher humidity increases microbial growth and particulate matter size and mass.
