Association of step volume and intensity with all-cause mortality in older women
JAMA Jun 03, 2019
Lee IM, et al. - In this study involving 16,741 women (mean age: 72 years), researchers investigated the association of the number of steps taken per day and stepping intensity with all-cause mortality. In this cohort of older women, as few as ~4,400 steps/day was significantly associated with lower mortality rates compared with ~2,700 steps/day. In addition, mortality rates progressively decreased before leveling off at ~7,500 steps daily with more steps per day. Stepping intensity, however, after accounting for total steps per day, was not clearly related to lower mortality rates.
