Association of serum uromodulin with ESKD and kidney function decline in the elderly: The Cardiovascular Health Study
American Journal of Kidney Diseases May 28, 2019
Steubl D, et al. - Researchers performed case-cohort study and case-control study to determine the link between serum uromodulin (sUMOD) levels and long-term kidney outcomes in older adults, a population with a high prevalence of interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy. They used a random subcohort comprising 933 subjects and additional cases of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). For kidney function decline, they used follow-up findings of the Cardiovascular Health Study. They found a 63% lower risk for ESKD in relation to each 1-SD higher sUMOD level in multivariable analysis. Elderly persons at reduced risk for ESKD could be detected by higher sUMOD levels.
