Association of serum procalcitonin and C-reactive protein levels with CURB-65 criteria among patients with community-acquired pneumonia
International Journal of General Medicine Jun 21, 2018
Keramat F, et al. - In this cross-sectional study, the researchers compared serum procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels with CURB-65 ranking, in the patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Ninety-three hospitalized subjects with a definite diagnosis of CAP, considering inclusion and exclusion criteria, were enlisted. They assessed serum PCT and CRP levels and their relations with CURB-65 criteria. Findings revealed that the serum level of PCT or CRP was a strong prognostic factor for assessing the severity of CAP and was a suitable factor for the CURB-65 criteria in the decision making of whether a subject with CAP in the ICU should be admitted.
