Association of retinal detachment with age 50 years or younger at onset in patients with acute retinal necrosis
Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology Apr 20, 2021
Urzua CA, Knickelbein J, Cuitino L, et al. - In this retrospective observational case series, researchers sought to describe clinical characteristics and predictive factors for retinal detachment (RD) in patients with acute retinal necrosis (ARN). The sample consisted of 34 adult [16 males and 18 females] patients (38 eyes) with ARN examined between January 2005 and July 2015 in the National Eye Institute (Bethesda, USA), the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Chile (Santiago, Chile), and APEC (CDMX, Mexico). In patients with ARN, RD is a significant complication. Younger patients may be more vulnerable to this complication, possibly due to a higher level of inflammation.
