Association of psychiatric disorders with mortality among patients with COVID-19
JAMA Feb 02, 2021
Nemani K, Li C, Olfson M, et al. - Researchers conducted a cohort study of 7,348 adults with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 in a New York health system to assess if a diagnosis of a schizophrenia spectrum disorder, mood disorder, or anxiety disorder is linked with increased risk of mortality in these patients. After adjusting for demographic and medical risk factors, results suggest a possible correlation of a schizophrenia spectrum diagnosis with an increased risk of death (OR 2.67). No association of mood (OR1.14) and anxiety disorders (OR 0.96) was observed with raised risk of mortality. A diagnosis of schizophrenia ranked behind only age in strength of an association with mortality vs other risk factors,.
