Association of partial chromosome 3 deletion in uveal melanomas with metastasis-free survival
JAMA Ophthalmology Feb 19, 2020
Rodrigues M, Rais KA, Salviat F, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, researchers intended to determine if there is an association between partial chromosome 3 deletion in uveal melanomas (UMs) and metastasis-free survival. From September 1, 2017, to November 30, 2017, data analysis was performed. Of the 1088 consecutive comparative genomic hybridization arrays that were conducted, 43 UMs in 43 individuals (median age, 58 years [range, 12-79 years]) carried partial deletions of chromosome 3. Findings suggested an association of partial deletions of chromosome 3 encompassing the BAP1 locus with lower metastasis-free survival at 60 months vs uveal melanomas without such deletion. Such findings suggest a poor prognosis for uveal melanomas that bear a partial deletion of chromosome 3 encompassing the BAP1 locus.
