Association of pallidal neurostimulation and outcome predictors with X-linked dystonia parkinsonism
JAMA Feb 14, 2019
Bruggemann N, et al. - Between February 2013 and December 2014, 16 Filipino males were estimated to analyze the effectiveness of deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the internal globus pallidus (GPi) among subjects with X-linked dystonia parkinsonism (XDP) in this prospective study and also to identify the predictors of postoperative outcomes. They noted significant improvements in dystonia severity 1 week and 6 months after surgery with Masked video ratings. They remarkably observed an improvement in important secondary endpoints including activities of daily living, pain severity, weight, and quality of life. They suggested considering GPi-DBS early during the disease course as the inverse relationship of postoperative benefit and caudate atrophy was also obtained.
