Association of ocular inflammation and rubella virus persistence

Gonzales JA, et al. - Investigators analyzed 6 cases diagnosed with rubella virus (RV)-associated uveitis at a tertiary uveitis referral center in the United States to estimate the efficacy of metagenomic deep sequencing (MDS) in identifying RV infection in candidates with uveitis. They found an independent association between persistent RV infection and recurrent/chronic anterior or anterior-intermediate uveitis and corneal endothelial cell damage and suggested the ophthalmologists count RV infection as a potential cause of hypertensive anterior and intermediate uveitis.
