Association of neighborhood socioeconomic status with outcomes in patients surviving stroke
Neurology® May 28, 2021
Stulberg EL, Twardzik E, Kim S, et al. - In this study sample with 776 stroke survivors (52.96% male, 62.24% Mexican American, 52.96% ≥64 years old), researchers assessed links between neighborhood socioeconomic status (nSES) and 90-day poststroke results. They found that in moderate to severe stroke cases, there was better function, better biopsychosocial health, and fewer depressive symptoms, all in relation to higher compared with lower nSES. Better function was observed in relation to higher nSES, among participants with minor strokes. Overall, poststroke recovery may be affected by nSES.
