Association of hepatitis B infection with high-risk complications in total joint arthroplasty
BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders Apr 17, 2019
Wang J, et al. - Investigators assessed the influence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection on the prognosis total joint arthroplasty (TJA) surgery in China. They observed a significantly higher incidence rate of complications among subjects following arthroplasty with hepatitis B infection compared with those without hepatitis B (10.2% vs 4.7%). Higher rates of surgical associated complications (6.1% vs 3.4%) and general medical complications (4.1% vs 1.3%) were reported among individuals with vs without hepatitis B infection. The overall risk of hepatitis B infection increased by 25% compared with the non-B hepatitis group. A 31% increased risk for medical complication and an 18% increased risk for surgical complication were noted in HBV infection cases.
