Association of functional loss with the biomechanical response of the optic nerve head to acute transient intraocular pressure elevations
JAMA Ophthalmology Jan 10, 2018
Tun TA, et al. - Herein, authors probed into the correlation between visual field loss and the biomechanical response of the optic nerve head (ONH) to acute transient intraocular pressure (IOP) elevations. This response illustrated a connection with established visual field loss in primary open-angle glaucoma [POAG] eyes. This was not found in primary angle-closure glaucoma eyes. A possibility was revealed for an association between ONH biomechanics with glaucoma severity in POAG. It was also noted that the 2 glaucoma subgroups displayed inherently different biomechanical properties.
