Association of diurnal calorie trajectory with all-cause mortality: Findings from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
Clinical Nutrition Sep 29, 2020
Lee CL, et al. - Researchers used data from NHANES (National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) to determine whether and how diurnal calorie trajectory could impact all-cause mortality. For ascertaining tertiles of daily energy intake and diurnal calorie trajectories, daily energy intake and the two-hourly calorie intake were divided by body weight, respectively. Experts defined three diurnal calorie trajectories: reference group, excess dinner, and high-calorie. They joined the mortality data to the National Death Index through the end of 2011. A higher risk of mortality was observed in relation to a diurnal high-calorie trajectory, vs the reference group. The impact of a large evening meal on death merits further inquiry.
