Association of disease severity with skin microbiome and filaggrin gene mutations in adult atopic dermatitis
JAMA Dermatology Jan 22, 2018
Clausen ML, et al. - This study was formulated in order to examine the skin and nasal microbiome diversity and composition in patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) compared with healthy controls. Authors also assessed the microbiome in association with the disease severity and Filaggrin (FLG) mutations in patients with AD. Data exhibited an altered microbiome composition in patients with AD in nonlesional skin, lesional skin, as well as nose. This, in turn, pointed towards a global influence of AD. A link was brought to light between microbiome composition in AD nonlesional skin with FLG mutations. This finding suggested the presence of a possible correlation between the skin microbiome and host genetics.
