Association of comorbid interphalangeal joint pain and erosive osteoarthritis with worse hand function in individuals with symptomatic thumb base osteoarthritis
Arthritis Care & Research May 08, 2020
Deveza LA, Robbins SR, Duong V, et al. - Hand strength and function were compared between cases with isolated thumb base osteoarthritis (OA) and those with coexistent interphalangeal (IP) joint pain and erosive OA. Researchers analyzed baseline data from a thumb base OA trial (n = 204). Per findings, individuals with thumb base OA exhibit worse hand function in presence of concomitant IP joint pain and erosive OA. They suggested independent correlation of coexistence of erosive OA with lower grip and tip‐pinch strength.
