Association of cardiovascular autonomic dysfunction with peripheral arterial stiffness in patients with type 1 diabetes
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism Mar 06, 2019
Nattero-Chávez L, et al. - In this cross-sectional study, researchers evaluated the risk of cardiovascular autonomic (CAN) in patients with type 1 diabetes and arterial stiffness (AS) and its potential association to atherosclerosis. The study sample consisted of 264 patients with type 1 diabetes. Data reported that CAN prevalence among AS patients was 48% but in subjects with normal ankle-brachial index (ABI) it was only 23%. Findings suggested an association of both peripheral AS and artheriosclerosis with CAN in type 1 diabetes. A simple method like the ABI can identify a subset of patients with undiagnosed dysautonomia.
