Association of blood and cerebrospinal fluid tau level and other biomarkers with survival time in sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
JAMA May 11, 2019
Staffaroni AM, et al. - In patients with sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD), researchers ascertained if plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers are correlated with survival time. In this longitudinal cohort study involving 188 candidates with probable or definite sCJD and codon 129 genotyping, CSF and plasma tau levels were significantly linked to survival time in sCJD patients, along with several other fluid biomarkers. The relationship between CSF and plasma t-tau levels and the combination of plasma t-tau level with survival time suggested that plasma t-tau level in sCJD can be a minimally invasive biomarker of fluid that can improve the stratification of clinical trials and guide clinical care.
