Association of antidiabetic medication use, cognitive decline, and risk of cognitive impairment in older people with type 2 diabetes: Results from the population-based Mayo Clinic Study of Aging
International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry Jun 09, 2018
Wennberg AMV, et al. - The association between metformin use, compared to other diabetic treatment (ie, insulin, other oral medications, and diet/exercise) and cognitive test performance and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) diagnosis was examined among 508 type II diabetics who were cognitively unimpaired at baseline enrolled in the Mayo Clinic Study of Aging. Findings suggest that, compared to other diabetic treatment, metformin use is not associated with cognitive test performance. However, there appeared an association of metformin, insulin and other oral medication use with incident MCI diagnosis.
