Association of acute increases in plasma creatinine after renin-angiotensin blockade with subsequent outcomes
Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology Aug 15, 2019
Fu EL, Trevisan M, Clase CM, et al. - Using an extensive population-based cohort, researchers assessed the link between creatinine rise following renin-angiotensin system inhibition (RASi) and adverse outcomes in this retrospective study of the Stockholm CREAtinine Measurements database. Participants were observed for a median duration of 3.5 years. Findings revealed worse health outcomes in correlation with rises in creatinine (> 10%) following the initiation of RASi among real-world monitored adults. The problem of discontinuation of RASi when plasma creatinine rises was not addressed by these findings but a higher subsequent risk of cardiovascular and kidney outcomes was demonstrated in patients with increases in creatinine.
