Association of acute endophthalmitis with intravitreal injections of corticosteroids or anti-vascular growth factor agents in a nationwide study in France
JAMA Dec 17, 2018
Baudin F, et al. - Researchers analyzed 254,927 subjects of median age, 79 years from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2015, in France, to estimate the incidence of acute endophthalmitis (one of the worst complications after these injections) after intravitreal injections (IVT) of corticosteroids or anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents within 6 weeks. They observed the risk of endophthalmitis was lower in male patients, higher for corticosteroids than for anti-VEGF agents, and higher for non-prefilled syringes of anti-VEGF medications than prefilled syringes for ranibizumab and aflibercept.
