Association between trabecular bone score and type 2 diabetes: A quantitative update of evidence
Osteoporosis International Jun 21, 2019
Ho-Pham LT, et al. - Researchers sought to determine if patients with type 2 diabetes vs those without diabetes have a lower trabecular bone score (TBS). Using electronic and manual search, they analyzed 12 studies involving 35,546 women and 4962 men aged 30 years and older. Findings revealed significantly lower TBS in patients with diabetes vs those without diabetes. In addition, individuals with prediabetes showed significantly lower TBS compared to normal individuals. A possible utility of TBS measurement was thus suggested for the assessment of fracture risk in diabetic patients.
