Association between periodontitis and spontaneous abortion: A Case-control study
Journal of Periodontology Nov 01, 2018
Chanomethaporn A, et al. - Authors gauged the correlations of periodontitis and periodontopathic bacteria with spontaneous abortion. The cases included in this study were 85 women with spontaneous abortion at < 20 weeks gestation matched to 85 controls on age, gestational age, and hospital. Compared to matched controls, periodontitis was more common in women with spontaneous abortions. Findings did not suggested an association of levels of periodontopathic bacteria with spontaneous abortion in this population. They noted an association of increased levels of P. gingivalis and F. nucleatum with periodontitis in both case and control groups. Only in case of women, increased T. forsythia levels and periodontitis were seen to be associated.
