Patel S, et al. - The objective of this research was to investigate the opioid prescribing patterns among ophthalmologists and to illustrate their role in the prescription opioid abuse epidemic. Ophthalmologists exhibited discretion in their opioid prescribing patterns. The data suggested that the current opioid abuse epidemic ought to prompt physicians to regard revisiting their prescribing protocols, as a result of the high risk for dependency.
