Association between metabolic syndrome and gingival inflammation in obese children
International Journal of Dental Hygiene May 04, 2018
Ka K, et al. - Researchers probed the extent to which metabolic syndrome (MetS) was related to gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) level among obese children. A cross-sectional analysis using data from visit 1 of the QUebec Adipose and Lifestyle InvesTigation in Youth cohort was performed. Experts noted a positive association of MetS with GCF TNF-α concentration in obese boys. A worse gingival health profile could be seen in obese boys with MetS than their obese counterpart without MetS. In obese girls, no such association was detected.
