Association between high-fasting insulin levels and metabolic syndrome in non-diabetic middle-aged and elderly populations: A community-based study in Taiwan
BMJ Open May 09, 2018
Chen YH, et al. - This study examined the correlation between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and fasting insulin (FI) levels in non-diabetic middle-aged and elderly adults in a community in Taiwan. The enrollment consisted of adults aged 50 years and above during community health examinations between January and October 2014. The exclusion criteria included subjects with diabetes mellitus. A higher prevalence of MetS was discovered among middle-aged and elderly non-diabetic people with increased FI in the community in Taiwan. Results also depicted that FI served as an independent risk factor of MetS in the study cohort.
