Association between hidradenitis suppurativa and hospitalization for psychiatric disorders: A cross-sectional analysis of the National Inpatient Sample
British Journal of Dermatology Mar 14, 2019
Patel KR, et al. - Data were analyzed to assess the characteristics of mental health (MH) disorders along with the correlation of cost burden with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). They observed more incidence of MH disorders in inpatients with vs without HS, 34·27% vs 20·05%. They reported a relation of HS with primary hospitalization for 8 of 15 MH disorders. A linear association of primary admission for MH with the female gender, public or no insurance and more chronic diseases and an inverse relation with older age and nonwhite race/ethnicity were noted among subjects with HS. They also recorded that more than $38 million (USD) of excess mean annual costs of hospitalization for MH disorders was associated with HS.
