Association between hand grip strength and impaired health-related quality of life in Korean cancer survivors: A cross-sectional study
BMJ Open Sep 12, 2019
Paek J, et al. - Researchers performed a population-based cross-sectional study to investigate the association of handgrip strength (HGS) with health-related quality of life (HRQoL) using a cohort of Korean cancer survivors. They obtained nationally representative population survey data from 1,037 cancer survivors, of whom 60.7% were women, via face-to-face interviews and health examinations in mobile examination centers. In the study population, stomach was the most common cancer site, followed by thyroid, breast, colorectal, and cervix. The investigators noted statistically significantly increased impairment in all five dimensions of the EuroQoL-5 dimension among individuals with weak HGS vs those with normal HGS. Overall, there was an association of weak HGS with impaired HRQoL in cancer survivors in this study.
