Association between gestational diabetes mellitus and depression in parents: A retrospective cohort study
Clinical Epidemiology Dec 08, 2018
Pace R, et al. - In mothers and fathers during prenatal and postnatal periods, researchers investigated the relationship between gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and depression incidence. Using a health administrative database, matched pairs (GDM vs no GDM) of randomly selected mothers with singleton live births (matched by age group, delivery year, and health region) and their partners (Quebec, Canada; cohort inception 1990–2007) were evaluated for a composite outcome of depression/self-harm/suicide. According to this retrospective cohort study, GDM is correlated with an increased risk of depression in women, especially during pregnancy, which highlights the need for depression screening and provides support during this period.
