Association between helicobacter pylori infection and Guillain-barre syndrome: A meta-analysis
European Journal of Clinical Investigation Mar 09, 2020
Dardiotis E, Sokratous M, Tsouris Z, et al. – Researchers estimated the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori antibodies in Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). They extracted data from six case-control studies, and performed a stratification analysis according to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) or serum detection material. A total of 105 individuals were included (40 GBS patients and 65 controls) in the CSF subgroup, while the serum subgroup involved 325 individuals (152 GBS and 173 controls). Overall, they confirmed a strong relationship between GBS and the presence of H. pylori antibodies, particularly in CSF, thereby implying the role of H. pylori infection in the pathophysiology of GBS.
