Association between educational level and total and cause-specific mortality: A pooled analysis of over 694,000 individuals in the Asia Cohort Consortium
BMJ Open Aug 29, 2019
Yang K, Zhang Y, Saito E, et al. - Via a pooled analysis of 694,434 Asian individuals from 15 prospective cohorts within the Asia Cohort Consortium, experts examined the correlation of educational level and risk of death from all causes, cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cancer among Asian populations. During a mean follow-up period of 12.5 years, 103,023 deaths were noted, among which 33,939 and 34,645 deaths, respectively, were because of cancer and CVD. Higher educational levels were significantly related to lower risk of death from all causes vs a low educational level. The pattern of the relation among East Asians and South Asians was comparable in contrast to ≤ primary education. Thus, among Asian populations, a higher educational level was correlated with a substantially lower risk of death.
