Association between dietary glycemic index and glycemic load with depression: A systematic review
European Journal of Nutrition May 25, 2018
Rahimlou M, et al. - Given an association has been suggested between dietary glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL) with risk of depression in several studies, researchers studied the impact of these diet indicators in depression pathogenesis by analyzing data from relevant studies searched from the Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane Library and Scopus databases from 1966 to March 2017. A systematic review was performed including three prospective cohort studies and three cross-sectional studies. The intake of foods with higher GI was indicated to be related to disease risk. However, an inverse relationship was found for GL, though the link was rather weak. Overall, data indicated that the risk of depression may be effectively attenuated by intake of a diet with lower dietary glycemic index.
