Association between aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase ratio and cardiovascular disease mortality in patients on peritoneal dialysis: A multi-center retrospective study
BMC Nephrology Jun 09, 2020
Feng X, Wen Y, Peng FF, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, researchers used Cox regression model to explore the connection between the aspartate aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase (AST/ALT) ratio and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. From November 1, 2005, to June 30, 2017, a total of 2,224 incident PD patients from multi-centers were recruited. Of the eligible 1,579 patients with a mean age of 49.3 ± 14.6 years, 55.4% of patients were male, 18.1% had diabetes, and 64.2% had hypertension. In the cohort population, the prevalence of a high AST/ALT ratio was 76.6%. Findings suggested that PD patients with high baseline AST/ALT ratio levels can be at a significant risk of CVD mortality.
